GaiaGift

Some projects change how you think about design. GaiaGift is one of them.

GaiaGift is a birth tissue donation organization empowering new parents to contribute donated biological material — placenta, umbilical cord, and cord blood — to accelerate life-saving cell and gene therapy research. When they came to me, they had a name, a mission, and nothing else. No brand. No packaging. No visual language. My role was to build all of it from the ground up.

The design challenge was creating a visual system that would serve two completely different audiences simultaneously — clinical staff who needed efficiency and absolute accuracy under time pressure, and new parents in one of the most emotionally significant moments of their lives. Working backwards from every possible point of failure, the solution balanced medical-grade precision with genuine human warmth.

The brand was successful enough to carry two additional sister businesses that launched from the same organization. To this day, a miniature version of the final collection kit sits on my desk — a reminder that good design can carry an extraordinary amount of purpose. One small box, carefully considered, helping make research possible that will benefit patients and families for generations to come. It doesn't get more meaningful than that.
